Callisto – Secret Youth

Album Art Album Art

It’s the third time I’m listening to this album today coming back to it after few months so this is an indicator I really dug out something to mention. I’ve known Callisto (from Finland) for some time, the first album I heard was Latter Day which is awesome by the way with its chamber atmosphere and darker voices. Secret Youth on the other hand sounds more progressive with more epic passages.

The first song from this album Spotify suggested was Backbone which reminds me of some darker bands from Doom Metal genre but in more movie-like dramatic sound. The whole set keeps the same mood which gives it almost conceptual look and feel. It also means that after the first song you know what to expect from the rest of the songs – and that’s a good thing!

I would not advice Callisto to anyone looking for party songs but it is meant for ears that enjoy sludge sound, clever guitar riffs, distinctive vocal and dreamy surrealistic lyrics. If you ever get to this album be prepared to listen to it all at once.

As I can’t get enough of this kind of music yet I’m giving 5 whirpools out of five!
