Updated for Harrowstorm
This build is perfect for any solo content. It’s build around some frost effects and high sustain. It can go through the veteran Maelstrom Arena easily if you don’t expect top score but you search for more survivability. I enjoy it for all group content but let’s be honest – it’s not meant for high DPS.
Disclaimer... (click to expand)My builds are not focused on the highest DPS. They are meant to be viable in any solo and group content using the sets I picked up during playing ESO and combine them with any buyable/craftable sets.
This build is crafted by me but I used other other build craftier as an inspiration, typically Alcast or Hack the Minotaur who both do great job for the community. I always adjust the skills to my play style which might differ to others.

Thoughts over the build
Equipment
Lets begin with monster set – Iceheart is an obvious choice. Not only it is used by most solo builds around it also perfectly fits the frost theme. I use one piece heavy and one medium for most Undaunted passives bonus.
The best frost theme set for me is Winderborn. The Ice Pillar looks cool, deals damage and snares – everything you need for solo content.
I used to use many secondary sets with Winterborn but for most convenient game play I ended up with Shroud of the Lich. With Blue Betty it will give you so much magicka that you don’t even care any more. Just slot it on front bar as it triggers only once per minute.
For the back bar the Maelstrom Ice staff is my choice number one. But any stuff from a set that on 2-item bonus gives either spell damage/spell crit/max magicka/mag recovery/spell penetration is great.
Food
For this build I recommend to run tripple food (either purple or gold) for any solo content. It allows you safely break free whenever needed and to dodge roll from time to time.
Mundus Stone
I decided to go with The Mage mundus stone (increases maximum Magicka by 2028 or 3092 with 7 Legendary Divine Traits). I love getting high magicka pool that helps both sustain and damage but there are other good choices.
Alchemy
The only potion you need is the triple potion. If you would like to use vanilla potions you can even go with health potions just for your safety. Your magicka sustain should be alright.

As you can see, my traits are not perfect. Also I might consider changing my jewelry enchants to spell damage.
Skill bars with alternatives
Front bar – shock stuff
I went for shock staff as it bonuses AoE damage including Fissure
- Deep Fissure (don’t forget to cast is as soon as it resolves)
- Force Pulse/Crushing Shock (the second choice is better for solo content – except the vMA Argonian behemoth)
- Leeching Vines (this skill is just awesome – it basically heals you whenever you put shield of any kind on you, it mitigates any damage you recieve, and it actively heals you on your attacks)
- Inner Light (I use it just for the 5% max magicka bonus, it is flexible slot, can be replaced)
- Harness Magicka (it is very expensive but lets you get some magicka back and any shield is great with the Vines)
- ULTI: Nothern Storm (it gives the desirable magicka bonus and has many cc efects while damaging enemies and also mitigates damage you receive – can it get even better??)
Back bar – frost staff
Frost staff helps with your defense and Warden’s passives bonuses it’s damage where other classes loses DPS Warden gets it back.
- Unstable Wall of Elements (helps with triggering enchantments and immobilize chilled enemies)
- Winter’s Revenge (snares and chills)
- Crystallized Shields (great versus ranged attackers, returns huge damage back)
- Enchanting Growth (save my butt-on, most of the time if you play this build right, you dont need it)
- Blue Betty (obviously magicka source, removes negative effects and small heals for free)
- ULTI: Nothern Storm
